I know this has been discussed before, but it is really starting to get to me. Every time I start up my car it sounds like something is seriously messed up. It is really embarrassing as well... a brand new car shouldn't make rattling noises.. Has anyone found a fix? Is it something that I should document and send to my dealers?

If parked flat I never hear it, but incline/decline parked for long period I hear the rattle too. I had the car at the dealership overnight for another fix, but I told them about the rattle and asked that they observe the next morning. Of course, not able to duplicate, so nothing done.

I'm skeptic to get anything done about it if they do find it. Last car I had had the rattle, under warrantee they went in and changed timing chain, guides, spring tensioners, did it over 2 jobs, apparently they missed something. Thing is, the rattle was still there even after all the work, including an oil leak that they could never solve. after about a year of chasing my tail with it I traded it in for the Cadenza. So long story short, I've been burned, I'm willing to just let it go, it's under warrantee so if the chain breaks, I'm covered to 100,000.

Not hearing anything unusual at start-up; at 7k miles so far.

You might experiment to see if its lack of oil in the upper assembly. Try adding a small amount of oil when the engine is cold just before starting to see if that makes any difference; either way my sympathies as this would bother me as well.

BTW; My BMW 740 did a similar thing throughout its 9 years, but not all the time; once in a while it would rattle and clunk at start up. Multiple dealers and BMW consumer affairs said it was a "characteristic" of the DOHC assembly design and did not damage the engine or affect engine lifespan. Still it bugged me and I have not had this situation on any other cars since then.

My 2012 Sorento SX did this as well...very loudly in the mornings...and it was a normally aspirated V6...not a GDI. Something in the design of Kia's V6 and a top mounted oil filter was what I was always told. Never did any damage to the engine in the 50k+ miles I had it...though it was quite annoying when it was first cranked in the mornings.

I hear it in my 2015 Cadenza for a minute or so every morning...though not quite as loud as the Sorento used to be. The GDI V6 is a bit noisier than other V6 engines...even at idle.

Open the hood take the cover off the top of the engine. The high pressure fuel pump is under the black styrafoam sound deadner. Sounds to me like that is where the noise is coming from. I had someone start the car while I listened to mine with the styrafoam off, really load.
Might be something else you are hearing but that seems to be the noise mine makes.

Mine does it when the car is left turned off for 2 hours or more. When u start it it rattles for 10 seconds then it goes away. Took it to the dealership they said it was normal. Beyond embarrassing

It is a little embarrassing telling people how far Kia has come and how nice it is only for them to look at you slightly worried when you fire it up lol. I just told them it was normal for this engine, not sure they were comforted by that.

Ok despite my previous note to the contrary; I heard the noise this morning when I stated the car with the window open (8K miles). Guess it was just a matter of time. It was there not that loud but went away very quickly.

I'm just going to monitor and see if it gets worse or a TSB is issued.

I'd guess it's like other cars. Usually happens due to oil not being on the top end. Rattles til the oil pump kicks oil to the top and goes away./

This is my 2nd Kia...first being a 2012 Sorento SX V6. This seems to be a characteristic of the Kia V6 engines.

My Sorento had a 3.5 V6 with Multi Point Fuel Injection...not a GDI system. It rattled like a mother when it was first cranked every morning. After a couple of minutes it would quieten down and purr like a kitten...and could barely hear it at idle. But, let it sit for a few hours, and when cranked again...rattle, rattle, rattle. The culprit was the top mounted oiled filter...lacking a drain back valve...or so I was told. We compared other Sorentos wth the same engine...all did the very same thing. I put over 50K miles on that vehicle and never once had an issue out of the engine...no misfires, no oil burning, nothing.

My current vehicle, the 2015 Cadenza SXL...with the 3.3 GDI V6 sounds the very same to me...except though it's quite a bit louder at idle...even after quietening down. The oil issues like in the Sorento could come into play in the Cadenza as well. Seems to be a theme with the Kia V6...draining the oil back. However, the GDI system is also just plain loud and makes for an annoyingly unquiet engine in my opinion. It even sounds rough and unrefined at passing RPMs...

Listen to the Optima engines...any of them...including the Turbo 2.0...all GDIs. They sound horrible at start up and at idle...like something is about to fall out. Even all the GDI engines I have heard from Chevy and Ford have sounded the same. Especially the GDIs in the Terrain/Equinox twins.

Exactly...just as I mentioned in my last post talking about the Sorento V6
