Removing HID lamp to replace???

15972 Views 19 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  kidhueyS
I know you twist off the waterproof cap and then there's a metal clip that holds the D1S lamp in but I can't seem to loosen it. I started on the drivers side because it was eay to get to. Any ideas? Do I just yank the crap out of the bracket? Help a fellow Cadenza owner out. I'm sorry.... K7 owner. I no longer have Cadenza on my arse! HeeHee. Thanks!!!

Use a little force, but be careful. If you think something is breaking, stop.

Try the owners/repair manual.

Why are you removing it tho?

love this advice... it's like telling someone when using a Qtip that when you feel pressure and resistance, stop..lol

Bought 6000k to match my led fogs. The stock hid 4300 aren't cutting it

LOL I know. I tried pulling on the bracket/clip and it feels like the whole socket is moving. Why does it have to be so annoying....

Lol, i try.
That metal clip has a lock on it. You have to pinch them together (or something like that) to get over the little tab that's hold it down.

I'm not remember 100% but it is something to that effect.
How to replace the 6000k Lights

I actually got my stock HID Lights replaced with 6000k about a 3 weeks ago and it looks a million times better and matches the LED perfectly!!!, stupid stock 4300ks lol. I have a friend who works at the KIA Dealership as a mechanic so he did the replacement for me. This is what he said he had to do.......

Driver Side (easiest to replace):
Have to push down on the bracket while prying both end of the bracket off the DS1 Bulbs. Once the bracket is off, don't twist because the bulbs just come straight off.

Passenger Side (hardest):
Have to do exactly the same thing on this side but he had to remove the washer fluid reservoir to have more room to replace the lights.
Sounds like you need 3 hands to do this. LOL. I went to dealer today for my 1st service and asked if can replace them and they said no because they are responsible if anything goes wrong!! I'm like...Really? It's a freakin light bulb. Whatever. I will give this another go tomorrow.

HA! I know right, they could of made it easier to remove the clip. My friend did it by himself so I'm sure you can do it. He scraped the chrome housing on the OEM Bulbs prying the clip off so he was in there pretty good lol Let us know how it goes and I hope you don't break anything while your doing it.
lol, ik, its like how many Stealership Mechanics does it take to screw in a light bulb?

They'll never do it, they'll be responsible if your 1k lightbulb breaks.

Bonus: How many polak's does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

3, 1 one to hold the light bulb and 2 to turn the person.
I tried the passenger side this morning. Unscrewed the coolant tank and got me much more room and yet still cant get the clip off. I squeezed the 2 ends and nothing. I pushed on the clip and nothing. I can see that it loops around the back so I assume squeezing and pushing on the clip to unhook it from the back. But still nothing. I give up!!!!!!

Oh WOW!!!! That's crazy! That is exactly how he said he removed it. It was very similar he said when he replaced his and his friends new Kia optima headlights. Sorry you didn't get them replaced, I would be very frustrated as well. Let me ping him again and see what he says.

Thanks.. I had a full hand on it from the passenger side because I removed the coolant tank (2 screws). And I still couldn't pop the dang clip off. If there is anyone in the general area that can do this please let me know. I'll drive a little to meet up.

I just changed these out last weekend. I had the same trouble with the clips. Tore up my hands trying to squeeze them in. I finally got them off when i realized i had to release some of the tension on the back of the clip.

there are two tabs on the back of the clip that maintain the tension. If you pry one up, carefully, you can then push the clip forward to unhook it from the housing. Before you put it back on bend it back just a little and you can then snap the clip back on easily.

I used a flat head screwdriver to bend the tab and release the pressure on the clip holding the back of the light. I spent hours before it finally dawned on me. if you have small hands you may be able to squeeze the sides of the clip and push forward at the same time. Didn't work for me though.

Good luck to all...btw the lights i used came from KarbonKoncepts...beautiful and they are really good guys over there. Ordered all the interior lights and license plate bulbs too.

I changed my Low beams today and put 5k and looks the same and also I think my lights dont turn anymore. Is there any way I installed it wrong or something
unit pops side ways

The whole unit can pop side ways then not work. First take the cap off back and see if the whole low beam is towards the front or side ways. it can be snapped back in place byhand
sooooo……..what I have not read yet is the simplest way I found. Slide a flathead screwdriver down the middle of the clamp and apply pressure at the tab (closest to front of car).
Then on the same side of the clamp but at the base (closest to the windshield) push in. Twist the flathead and that side should pop loose. Then it’s a wiggle game to release the other side. Hope that helps.

Try it slowly, but be careful not to break it.
