I have a 2017 Cadenza SXL and have noticed a plasticky, rattling noise coming from the dash. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the steering column. But after a short reprieve, the noise came back. At that time I had moved and took it to another Kia dealer. They kept it for a couple days and said they had found it was a loose wire in the dash. The noise has been gone for the last two two months, but is now back with a vengeance. My buddy has the same noise and his is the exact same model and trim as mine, just a few months older. Has anyone had anything similar happen?

I have a 2014 and have a similar rattle but when I trouble shoot it this is what I found out for my rattle. When I have the air handler system on blowing out through the front vents it goes away. Whenever I move the blower to utilize the lower vents down by the occupants feet the rattle occurs. I have read up and it could be a motor that moves the air direction flaps and it is cycling over and over causing the rattle. Not sure, and not sure I am helping your issue either.

Steve, It's the door actuator for the modes. I had mine replaced once already, sound came back about a year or so later. Still under warranted, plan to get them to fix it again. If you cycle through the modes, you can get that sound to go away, but it comes back when you're in certain normal modes.

I'd bet money that's the door actuator for the HVAC modes. Mine was easier to identify because if you switch to floor vent it would go away, but every other mode it was there.

Actually had the dealership flush my radiator (paid for it was due anyway, 50,000 miles) then went back and asked them to flush it again and get the air burped out of it. I thought the sound was gurgle from air in the heater core. They kind of heard it, but didn't ever identify it. That day I had the second flush I was about to drive off, and the noise was present (drove it it was dormant, it came and disappeared often) Pulled the service adviser he pulled the tech, and we all sat in the car fukin' with it until we could narrow it down, he had his head under the driver side dash at one point, and we were drilling through all the settings, and he could either see or feel it, not just hear it.

They had the part on hand, took about an hour to swap it out, lot of contorting. Irony was i had to go back because he didn't connect it right, and all i had was air out of the bottom vent no matter the mode. Still not sure about the level of detail at the kia dealerships, wasn't the first time i had to go back for something.

The sound was gone for about a year, it's unfortunate that the sound has come back, just a bad part, or it's in a bad spot that it gets damaged.

Hi I have a2017 Cadenza SXL with 19k miles. Only a thermostat problem so far. But if anybody gets this months Consumer Reports the Cadenza has one of the worst reliability records of any car.
Great reviews by the magazine was a factor in my buying the car. I was planning on buying the car after the lease but now I'm not so sure.

It's not that it's an unreliable car, it's just that there are so few on the road, maybe only a few hundred sold every month last 2 years. And let's face it, the depreciation is high. That said, I bet the article was talking more about the depreciation as the issue then it was about mechanical reliability. Thing is, anything breaks, it's covered to 60k anyway, but if your plan was to trade it in at 3-4 years you're going to take beating.

I totally agree I am sure that in Canada its less than 10 my dealer cannot even get them in as Kia is all in with the stinger which is a nice car but too low for me . When looking at Consumer Reports one has to be careful on how they rate almost anything .I am a member of CR and I get a survey each year on my wife's and my cars' . This year I didn't get around to filling it in and if I did I would probably have rated the Cadeza at the top of every category ergo one more positive review might have changed the outcome

If you plan on owning the car long term buy it if you want extended warranty there are options available .It will be a lot cheaper to own then buying new again .I have a five year financing at 0% and I will simply drive it until it will not drive anymore .I probably will buy a third party extended warranty . Having said that If I win Canada's national lottery Im buying a Bentley convertible :)

I’m having this same exact problem/noise now, did you ever figure out what it was?

I recently took to another Kia dealer and they said it’s likely the plastic surround of the HUD. They didn’t explore it, thinking that taking the dash apart would cause more issues than it’d solve. But it’s starting to get worse so I may just say “To **** with it” and have them do it anyway.

Ah I see, we aren’t in warranty any longer and I made an appointment for next week, wondering if I should even bother as sometimes the seasons changing cause these types of noises for a bit and then they go away. Either way getting worse isn’t acceptable, if you do have them pull it apart I’d be interested to hear what they find. I can also post back next week with what our local Kia says. Either way I hope yours gets fixed asap.

Guys, I've said it a few times here already, Door actuator for the HVAC modes. It can be replaced without removing the dash. Tech has to contort to get to it, and when I had mine replaced, had to go back because he replaced the actuator, but didn't hook up the door correctly so i wasn't getting the modes to switch. But he went back in and connected it correctly and everything was fine, all quiet for quite some time. I'm telling ya, tell the tech that's what you think it is, he'll get up underneath and see/hear it plain as day.
