Finally moved to a house with a garage and wanted to be able to open the garage door from the car. I can't find anything in the owners manual regarding this. My 1999 Acura RL allows me to have 3 garage door openers programmed at once. Somebody help me out. I promise I made a valiant effort to read my owners manual. :nerd

I dont know what model you bought nor year .my 2016Cadenza Tech version has it and is built into the rear view mirror .Hrere is the owners manual instructions note "if equipped"

Make this adjustment before you
start driving and while the day/night
lever is in the day position.
Pull the day/night lever toward you to
reduce the glare from the headlights
of the vehicles behind you during
night driving.
Remember that you lose some
rearview clarity in the night position.
Electric chromic mirror (ECM)
with HomeLink® system and
compass( if Equipped )
Your vehicle may be equipped with a
Gentex Automatic-Dimming Mirror
with a Z-Nav® Electronic Compass
Display and an Integrated HomeLink®
Wireless Control System.
During nighttime driving, this feature
will automatically detect and reduce
rearview mirror glare while the compass
indicates the direction the vehicle
is pointed. The HomeLink®
Universal Transceiver allows you to
activate your garage door(s), electric
gate, home lighting, etc.
❈ HomeLink® is registered trademark
of Gentex

I suspect your model if the base model Homelink is not standard equipment.I made my decision on which model to purchase based on Kia's PDF brochure which has matrix showing which features are on each model

My '14 Premium with Lux has it. If you have ANYTHING other than the base Premium (at least on a '14) you should have it.

Funnyman and Sh30469,

Thank you both very much! I have the 2014 Premium. I was looking at the visor instead of the mirror. I will look for Homelink in my owners manual so I can get it set up.

Hope it is quick and easy.

I've never used this, for fear if someone broke into the car they could open the garage. Does it require the key or car on in order to open a programed garage door? or can you get in without a key and open the house?

I haven't tried to do this without having my key in hand; but it definitely does work with the engine off as I always open the door first before starting my K900 and as I did on my Cadenza.

Without the key, I doubt it would work; will have to check sometime!

Glad you got it worked out.

You have the fob there is no key except the emergency key which I have never used works as it opens doors etc. If the car is unlocked and the person did not have the fob the home link would not work

hmm. yes, 'thank you' for correcting me to use the word fob. which has a key inside it. saying 'key' was generalizing since I believe all Cadenza's are push button start and the word 'key' is simply a standardized reference to the authorizing object which starts the car. I am pretty sure most would understand my reference to the item required to allow the push button to start the car.

fob; not key. hope my old mind can remember. also one may note very few capitalizations of words in this current post; I realize that is incorrect as well. it is an informal forum; at least I do check my spelling!

fob; gotta remember that.

I'm sorry if I sounded contrite or condescending it was not meant to be. I only meant it that a fob works in the car without any overt action taken by the driver.Just being close to the car in enough to do many features without turning on the motor. One of those features is probably why the homelink probably works without the car being started .

Exactly correct about the fob and functionality without starting the car. I am sorry to over react; and appreciate your clarification.

Best regards!

Maybe to make sure and put you at ease you should leave your car unlocked sometime for a little bit and then go out to it and see what works? Program your opener and try it, if it works without the key then you can always clear the memory so the garage code doesn't work. Trying it may be worth the peace of mind.

Thanks all for the quick advice on Homelink. I am all set and ready to go. I can now start the coffee maker, the TV, the Stereo and open the garage door with my Homelink!!! LOL

On a serious note, it was easy. I had to push a button on the actual garage door opener unit for it to recognize the homelink but that was easy also.
