Has anyone had an issue with the weatherstripping at the front of the panoramic sunroof getting caught by the wind deflector, squished down by it and not sealing correctly?

Was driving on the highway the other day and heard extremely loud rushing wind noise from the upper front roof area, with the sunroof closed. Upon inspection, it appears the wind deflector on my sunroof has begun snagging the stripping when the roof closes, and pressing it down in such a way that the roof no longer seals correctly at the right front corner. It appears to actually ripping the stripping off. I managed to press the stripping back in place and get it to clear the deflector properly and seal. But each time I open it again and close it, the same thing happens unless I manipulate the seal.

Never seen this happen on any sunroof before, be it panoramic or regular sliding sunroof.

Taking it to have oil changed at end of week and will have dealer look at it then. It does not appear to be an easy fix however. Will post a couple of pics of the issue when I have a moment.

What year car is it?
If you purchased it new, should still be under warranty.
Unless you have a ton of miles on it.
If a CPO car warranty for one year should cover it

It's a 2015, purchased new...and barely has 20,000 miles on it. Just wondered if anyone had ever run into or seen this issue before. Guessing not from the lack of replies.

Definitely still under warranty...

My sunroof has been good. Few creeks here and there but nothing serious, I kinda expect that from a glass roof, just a bit of flexing.

Interesting. Is the stripping cracked/slit at all near the point where it is pinching? It looks like it is just a little too far forward or too tall and it gets caught up when the wind diffuser comes down. Have you played with the wind diffuser at all to see how it is pinching it?

look at your first picture.
See the back part of the weather stripping , how the bottom of the strip is attached tucked in.
As opposed to look in the front.
Mine looks like the rear all the way up.
Was the car left in the sun with the sun roof open?
Looks like it isn't hooked right on the bottom in front.

Yeah I have actually checked the deflector and it seems to be working normally. The stripping is actually glued to the sunroof frame itself. When the deflector folds down, it seems the netting of the deflector is actually folding backwards, catching the stripping, pulling it forward, down and trying to pull it off it's glueing.

I'm taking it to KIA on Friday for an oil change, and will have them fix it. I'm guessing the entire stripping will have to be removed and replaced...whatever work that's going to involve and no telling how much time will be involved!!

It's glued to the sunroof frame itself...like a heavy duty sticky rubber cement. And it's being pulled forward and down/off by the wind deflector now for some strange reason. :(

Just an update...

Took the car to the dealership today. They just called back to say that they would need to order a new weather-stripping for the sunroof panel, as it was being torn by the accordion side panel on the roof (not by the wind deflector...or so they said).

The new stripping will be in on Thursday of this week I was told. Once in, to replace it involves removing the headliner and then removing the sunroof panel itself in order to replace the weather-stripping. Supposedly it will take 5-6hrs to complete the job. Will update later once I receive the car back...and see how things are.

A bit more intensive than I thought, but I guess I like that it's a bit more robust than I thought.

Wow, lot of work for such a simple part swap!

Update...

The Cadenza has been in the shop since Tuesday. They called today to say it was ready. When I arrived, I asked to look it over before I picked it up. Upon inspection with the service advisor, found that they had somehow put the left side "accordion" strip on wrong. Part of it was actually poking into the interior of the car when I looked up at the roof panel from the driver seat. When I opened the roof, it ripped completely off!
The original part they replaced...the weather-stripping seems to be correct though from what I can tell.

So needless to say, it's still in the shop as they have to order a new accordion part, and do that replacement now. Who knows how long it will take this time.

Nice thing though, they put me in a brand new 2017 Cadenza Premium w/Luxury and Sunroof Packages till mine is back in one working piece! SHARP!

Will update later...

Figures, sounds lile a typical dealer experience. How do you like the 17 compared to yours?
My dealer is usually pretty good with things, so I was surprised. They were extreme apologetic. So, I'll give them a chance to get it right.

The 2017 that they gave me to drive as a loaner is fantastic! It has to be seen in person to appreciate it...pics in the mags don't do it justice! It's a Premium with the Luxury & Sunroof Packages...listing in about $36K according to the window sticker...so it's missing some things compaired to my Limited. However, still very nice! It drives basically the same as my 2015. The HarmonKarden audio blows my Infinity system out of the water. Still have not tried out Apple CarPlay yet, but curious how well it works. The navigation/radio setup is great...with ability to have split nav/radio screen...and the graphics are much sharper than mine!

This one does not have the higher end TFT instrument display, so can't comment on that. The interior is extremely streamlined compared to the curves and lines of my 2015...its also bigger I think. The panoramic roof is full size now...no more middle bar. Still no LED running lights for whatever reason...just "positioning lights"...odd! Also no forward parking assist sensors...only rear...odd as well!

Overall though, it's a big change from the look of my 2015.

They called to say it was ready again today. Replaced the torn up accordion on the driver side of the sunroof.

I picked it up, opened the roof a few times and looked it over in the service bay. Looked good from what I could tell.

HOWEVER, when I got it home I looked it over again in the sunlight and I found that the weatherstripping...which had been the original issue...had not been put on correctly on the driver side front corner! It actually had a 1/4'' gap between the frame as it turned the corner. I could actually see my finger between the frame and the weatherstripping when I placed it under the frame!! Large enough to allow plenty of water inside the car if it ever got wet!

SLOPPY SLOPPY WORK!

So, I called and told them I was bringing it back! They are having expedite order another weatherstripping for it, take it all apart and replace it once again! Needless to say, not very happy at this moment! Supposedly it will be ready by 6pm tomorrow...we shall see! UGH...

Will update tomorrow once I hear back...

Oh I will for sure! Done it before, and will do it again if it's not ready later tomorrow or if there's yet another issue!
