I just moved into a new Condo ( prior living n a townhouse and didn't need this function ) and I have two security gates . The fob is a combination fob as well as door opener and the technology is about 25 years old give or take a year or so. I have used Home Link before so I know how it is supposed to set up and followed the instructions .I saw the blinking lights slow down so I new ut read the fob but the home link buttons on the mirror will not a garage gate open .is it the age of and or the technology of the fob? Any suggestions?

I just moved myself and went through the same issues getting it paired up. Sounds like you are trying to pair one to your security gate, and another to your garage door? What I learned is you have to follow the instructions for pairing with the remote, and then do the instructions for the learning button on the garage door opener.

I assume the security gate has the same type learning button as a standard garage door opener, so you probably have to coordinate that with your HOA to get it working.

Completely abstract, but gotta ask, are the home link buttons active if the car is off and the key is not in the car? Let's say someone breaks into the car without setting off the alarm, then hits the home link button, will the garage door open? I've always avoided enabling those features on the cars in case I have to leave them outside... but then I really don't know one way or the other if it's a security issue.

Our garage door opener is anything but standard ( see picture) we have two security gates, the first can be opened with button on the fob or from my "landline" phone from my condo .The first gate is to enter the first floor of parking lot which is guest parking .Once you drive through guest parking there is a second security gate which allows only residents, again by using button on fob . I followed directions and saw the red light flashing quickly at first then slowing down or vice versa ( lol) and it seemed it paired correctly buy alas it did not work on either security gate . :(

The fact that it seemed to pair correctly still leads me to believe you need to do the rolling code procedure. That's the exact thing that happened on pairing my garage door - seemed to work when doing the remote procedure, but fails to open the door. Then, after doing the rolling code procedure, it works.

I think most of these security gates work on the exact same technology as garage door openers. Without doing the rolling code procedure (pressing the "learn" or smart" button), it will never work. I'd talk to your HOA to see what they say.

Thanks guys I suspect it is the rolling codes that are causing me the problem .The gate is about 15 ft high and there is not a snowball chance in **** I am getting a ladder to stand near the gates button I will continue to use the fob since it is in my cup holder anyways . Gene noce to hear from you again How is the new vehicle treating you ?> do you miss the K900?

Yes I miss it

As funny as it may sound, I miss the K900.
Got the 2018 Genesis, 3 year lease, 5.0 RWD ultimate with everything on it.
Some new features I like but doesn't make up for the style. K900 has the G90 beat there.
I do like the lane keep, and the ride is much better. Sort of wish the 2019 K900 had come
out in 2018. They talk about Genesis service, T
the service I got from KIA was way better.
I don't even go to the dealership anymore just have them come get the car. May sound strange
but I enjoyed going to the dealership and looking at new cars while I got an oil change or
what ever.
Genesis was going to have their own dealerships, well that isn't happening with this lease.
just over 2 years till the lease is up and will go back to KIA.
Got a much better deal to switch to the Genesis than I was offered on the 2018 K900
Nice to see you are still on here
