Looks like the fog lights on my 2014 Cadenza operate only when the headlights are "on". Have I got that right?

I thought the purpose of fog lights were to replace the headlights which reflect back to the driver in intense fog. The low-positioned fog lights illuminate the road with minimal reflection. Requiring the headlights to be "on" as well seems to defeat the purpose.

None of my cars have ever functioned the way that you describe. The way they are on the Cadenza is correct to me (only being on when headlights are on). They help to illuminate the road yes and it helps to shed more light without putting on high beams.

Older cars you could at least run fogs with your running lights, but keep the headlights off. I miss that look. I think it's DOT standard, because they don't want drivers to use that look while driving. I could be wearing the tinfoil hat too tight, but it makes sense.

That said, many cars out there have aftermarket options to provide power to the fogs, but still let you use the stock stalk switch...
