Door locking from outside while running

I used to lock my doors while outside the car on my old Nissan with proximity key while the engine was running with no problem. Say for instance I wanted to leave my car running in the cold, but go back inside to get the laptop bag...I can't seem to figure out how to do this. They were nice enough to leave a keyhole under the plastic cover at the handle for emergencies, and I tried that, and was able to successfully lock the car, but what a pain in the butt to have to remove the cover, remove key from fob, lock, then reverse the steps to get back in. And what if I drop or scratch the handle cover?

Anyway, not needed that often, but man I'd like to figure out if that's even possible...

I forgot the main point, I can't lock the doors with the door button or the remote from outside when the engine is running...
I don't thin there is a way, I've tried myself... the doors have to be locked from the inside... like if I leave my mom in the car running while running inside for something
This is one of the things I dislike. Not a big deal, though.
I wonder, if you take the key out of the car (and it beeps really loud) can you still put it in drive and take off with no key in the car?? ROFL.
I hate that beep...nothing says "steal my car" more then a long lame beep to tell everyone I walked away from a running unlocked car...

I do wonder if you can get it into gear and drive off. I know with my maxima I was able to go down the street without the key, never got farther then a few hundred feet and came back. Will have to try that out with the Cadenza one of these days...
Yes you can drive off with the car if it was left running and the key taken out. It can't be restarted with the key out of the car.
start car remove the key, drive the car around the block and see. Just don't turn it off or you will be walking back home.
Yes this is an unfortunate thing on ALL KIA models including the K900. We are working with two electrical engineers and also who we order some of our other electrical modules from to find a module to fix this annoying PITA problem. Will definitely let the community know if and when a solution is reached.

To answer the drive away question, you can Drive the car without a key as long as you do not turn it off.
That goes for any car with a smart key fob. As long as car is on.. u take key out.. u can drive away. Only when u turn it off... ur in trouble. Source: i am a part time valet. :)

Oh really? I thought on some higher end models there was a shifter lock mechanism in place that locked the shifter from being placed in drive without the key present. Have you never ran into that before?

I'm actually quite surprised to find that there aren't a lot of cars with a running without key security setting to disable the car from going into gear...
Can you wire up an auto start with push button start cars? Seems you wouldn't for this same reason since you would need the fob in the car for it to start. You wouldn't be able to lock the car with the fob inside so it would need to be unlocked....then to have it running like that your car would get boosted.
Gone in 5 seconds instead of Gone in 60 Seconds! Haha.
Sorry for the late reply. I havent been on the forums in a looong time. Holiday season was really crazy for me. But yea.. no I haven't run into those yet. Even S500 or Porsche Panameras all run without keys as long the ignition was on before key leaves car.
