Awhile back I asked if you could turn off the breaking feature with the cruise control. I realize you can decrease the car length range before it brakes but is anyone aware if you can completely disable that feature? I like to use my cruise the old fashioned way.

Thanks Yooshaw, let me give that a shot. I thought I tried that but maybe I didn't hold it long enough.

No luck for me on holding the button and disabling the cruise control. Guess I will have to ask the dealer on my next visit. I held that sucker for two minutes and got nothing. I even got it down to one car length and then held it. Nothing.

works on mine which had a July '13 build date. be sure and turn on the cruise button, then hold the car length distance button down for about 10 seconds; you get a message box in the gauge cluster which says something like adaptive cruise disabled. I'm sure you have to do it each time though.

Verified today on mine as well. Cruise control has to be on in order to change modes.
Well folks, from the Dumb and Dumber department.......I realized that the advice you gave me worked when I had the car in park. I activated the cruise on button and then I held down the car length distance button as suggested and it gave me the message that it was turned off for normal cruise operation. I am embarrassed to admit that I tried it while rolling on the highway. Duh!!!!!!

Thank you to all of you who helped as I am too lazy to read the **** book.

That's interesting - mine worked while driving. Cruise control has to be on, and not active though. Trying to deactivate it with cruise control off did nothing...

Mine works the same. The cruise control system has to be "on"' but not actively set. Press and hold the distance button for a few seconds and it reverts to "normal cruise control" mode. It goes back to "adaptive" by repeating the process, or turning the car off then restarting.

Mine works identically to wch966's. A caveat for everyone though. I was driving after a heavy snow, so there was slush on the highway and the adaptive sensors got covered and gave me an error and shut off adaptive cruise. I switched to regular cruise control, and as I recall, that refused to work with the sensors covered even though it doesn't use them. Just an FYI.
