Coffee Spill on Passenger Seat

2596 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Scynthyace
Pretty bummed this morning as I spilled an entire Dunkin Donuts medium coffee on my passenger seat. The coffee seeped through the seat and the majority of it ended up on the rear passenger floor and some had ended up on both side compartments of the seat and I'm sure inside the seat itself.

I took the car in to a detailer immediately for an interior shampoo treatment. The detailer informed me that due to the perforated seat I should consider replacing the bottom seat top and cushion. He said he would try his best as far as cleaning goes; rear carpets and floor wouldn't be an issue as he was confident in cleaning that. But the seat cushion is not something he can get to and recommended replacing that sometime in the future.

Any thoughts on this ordeal? Should I replace the seat cushion? Any other options at my disposal? A new seat top and cushion would cost about $450 without installation. Can I order the part and install myself maybe to save some $$?

Here is the recommended part # for my car; 88100-3RAX1-GXT

Super bummed about this, car isn't even a year old :cry

I would be more concerned with the electrical components within the seat then the cushion but what do I know .I drink Starbucks and their coffee never spills :)
Allow the seat to dry completely before using any of the electrical components.

I've taken my passenger seat out (even the rear bench), and it's really not that difficult. You can pull the seat out, and use a mild heat gun to ensure all of the liquid has dried.

You can then take a mild-wire brush (or a sewing pin) and ensure the holes are all clear of debris/residue(I opted for a sewing pin because I didn't want to risk scratching the leather).

I had to do this because someone decided to throw milk all over my back seat and passenger seat.

It took me 2 hours to clear the passenger seat of milk residue, and was afraid of a sour milk smell, but there isn't any and the leather didn't deform either.

These seats are designed to take some liquid, after all your soggy bum can sit on them after running through a rainstorm and they still survive, I wouldn't be too terribly worried about it.

$ 450.00 is a good price the oem listed price is $585.42.
Discount you can buy for $428.00 but then you have to pay shipping , so cost more that way.
Hey did you drop the cup or did the cap just pop off? You can always sue dunkin doenuts for
not putting the cap on right. Kidding!
People sue for less than that.
I wouldn't do it myself just because I wouldn't know where to start.

That's why I don't drink coffee... I drink Chocolate Milk and call it coffee so people wont judge me. :)
To bad the www.kiatechinfo.com isn't still free. That tells you even how to take the seat out and reinstall.
I see KIA still list it in the manual as a free service even in the new 2015 and 2016 cars but they don't honor what they
have printed in the manuals.
Removing the seat is just a couple bolts, I can probably write up a how-to tomorrow when I get my car back for those interested.

This is why we all found out who you were and made your wife tell you to go back up and get your car back after you sold it. >:D

Haha! Ironically she drives the civic more than the Cadenza, so on days I don't need my truck, I still drive the Cadenza... I love the car :)
