This bulletin provides information about the timing chain tensioner and tensioner arm replacement of some 2014~15 MY Cadenza (VG) vehicles which may experience a brief chattering or rattling noise concern from the engine on start - up, after a cold soak. After
confirming the noise concern follow the procedures outlined in this TSB
to resolve the concern.

Nice, i'll be getting this looked at soon!
My first warranty repair; there goes a perfect record for the K7. But thanks, the start up noise is definitely there now.
Yep, been hearing mine do this. Seems to have gotten louder as time goes on.

So if I'm experiencing a rattle when I start up the car, I can basically just print that PDF out as a reference and drive on over to my Kia dealership and have it fixed under warranty?

Thanks in advanced.
In the event they claim its not affecting your car, just call the preferred line, they'll force the dealer to perform the maintenance. :)
Finally! I've had this since early on. Had friends and family both hear it (especially in front of car before getting in) and they usually give me a worried look and ask if it's alright. I just tell them that's how the engine is. I've had some badge snoots just say that's why they would never buy a Kia even though they drive some beater. This will be nice. I'll call my dealer in a bit.
So far my car has not done this (hope it does not), but for those that have it, have you taken it in and did this fix it for you?
Foldman where did you find this? I can't find it on the internet and the preferred rep couldn't find it either. Is this something that should be sent to the dealership? I have to fight my dealership to get things done other than standard maintenance. If I just site this # and say it has a rattle and they "can't find it anywhere" I may be out of luck for a problem I've had for over a year...
I'm unable to find anything on this TSB as well, but I was able to confirm each of the part numbers in the TSB match up to parts that would be compatible with a Cadenza...

Odd that the preferred line hasn't heard of it though.
It's on the Kia Tech Info site.

Dealerships service departments should have it in their system - just mention TSB 148 to help them look it up quicker. They may not be immediately familiar with it, as Cadenza's are low production compared to Optima, Sorrento, and Soul. You may be the first to complain of it at their dealership. Taking a copy of the TSB to the dealer won't hurt either.

Has anyone had this chatter/rattle fixed under this TSB yet? If so, did it resolve the startup noise issue?

I just had my 2015 SXL (11,000 miles now) in at the dealer for an oil change. While there I mentioned that the startup noise/rattle has progressively gotten worse since the car was new. They took look and noted this particular TSB, and said to make appointment to have the work done. They even printed out the 5 page TSB and attached to my invoice, and noted that they would need to order parts and make sure replacement vehicle is available for me. Said would take about 2 days to complete the work.

Just wanted to see if anyone had had it done yet before I give it a try. I will probably wait till my next oil change is due to have it done being as it will take a while to do it.
Yes, I got it done and it worked for my car. This is from another thread where I posted it:

"Ok, so the update I was promising on the TSB148 fix. My car was at the dealer for about a week because some parts had to be ordered from L.A. (apparently someone stole the last part from Chicago just before my order was put in lol). I asked them to also change my oil and do the 15k mi service so I really wasn't worried. What DID get was the fact that when I did get a rental Enterprise gave me a Fiesta... I'm not a big guy but my shin was resting on the center console near the shifter. I didn't mind because originally it was going to take 3 days. When I got the call stating it would probably be a week I told them I needed an upgrade. After some calls around between dealership and consumer affairs (rentals are taken care of by Kia, not dealership) I got an Altima as a loaner from the dealer that just got back in. I also got a call from the service manager saying that the 15k service would be $200 after my service plan was taken into consideration. That didn't sound right and after another call to consumer affairs it was taken care of and all in all everything was the normal $10 for just the Techron being added.

Sorry for the big wall there, here is the TSB148 portion. They said this job took about 9 hrs to do after all the parts were in. I think there were like 20 summod parts replaced. The car now starts VERY smooth and there is absolutely no rattle at all. This is exactly the way I would expect a car of our caliber to start. I highly recommend this service to anyone on their next standard service interval (beware parts may be limited and you may be without your car for a bit, so plan accordingly).

TL;DR
Kia consumer affairs did awesome for me again and TSB148 is worth it, my car starts great now. "

Here is the thread. Also gave a quick status for 1 month later.

Is the engine chatter/rattle issue only happening when it's cold and raining? Is that what the cold soak means?

Cold soak meaning and definition in technical and automotive terminology
Just to make it really simple, it's usually when it hasn't run in quite a few hours/over night, though usually does happen quicker in colder weather. The weather doesn't seem to matter as the rattle is there all year and any weather condition.
Count me in as now having the rattling after a cold soak. I've probably had it a while and never noticed, as the quietness of the cabin seems to suppress it pretty well. Had the windows open on some starts recently and the rattling is definitely there. Will probably take a video on the phone to document it before going into the dealer, as I'm sure I won't be able to replicate it at the dealer.
