Cadenza 2014 - what you don't like about it, aka improvements to be made

Let's talk about what needs to be improved to help KIA makes a better car for us :)

I have several things so far:
1. Most irritating thing is a driver headrest position...it makes you feel constant contact with your head...and to avoid that I put my seat with more back angle...however I prefer to be in straight position as I used to on my Optima.

2. Of course cooling passenger seat is a must for that level... :)

3. Small thing - digital speed duplicated in km/h...Why do I need that in US?
Even if they want to do that by default in case you travel to Canada and back...give me an advanced option to changed it to mph (as 90% percent of USA's cars never leave US...and rest of 10% could be smart enough to switch main speedometer to km/h instead of looking at small one)...I hope they fix it with next software update.

4. SCC is a great thing...before I used it only on highway...now I'm using it in traffic also...so much relief on your legs :)... So the issue that car continue to move after full stop only if you stopped for less than 3 sec...sometimes it's not enough. I hope they would add option to changed it let's say to 10, 15 sec (as they did with turn signal where 3 times is default and the only option on Optima but on Cadenza you can chose 5 and 7...5 is the best for me as I like to inform other drivers for 2 sec before I make actual maneuver). Also if you can use SCC to full stop...then allow to initiate it at any speed :) even 5 mph...why not...especially when you stuck in traffic suddenly and moving very slow...because you can increase speed limit of SCC to 75 mph even when you move 5 mph.

5. Last minor thing for now :). When you go back it's automatically lower rear window sunshade...I understand it improves visibility...but in most cases you look at backup camera where things are much more clear :)...please add an option to turn it off...even leaving existing behavior as a default one.

....good stuff to know...

..I would guess (hope) that some of the software update-able issues will be addressed eventually, and I have heard the headrest complaints exist on other Kia models as well. I wonder of the stanchions can be heated and carefully bent back? Thanks, this is the kind of info that buyers want to know. Also, if we're fortunate, there are Kia people watching the forum.

John
aloukienko,

What you should do is create an account on the Kia website for Owners and enter your complaints there. That's want I do when something is annoying me.

Kia corp. will call you withing 24hrs of submitting the email.

Aloukienko, I know many will look at your post and wonder if you regret your decision to, at least what I would consider an upgrade, from your Optima. I don't think that is the case. I traded a Optima SXL for my Cadenza and I have not regretted my decision once. Many will wonder why you bought the car if the items you listed are an erritant to you knowing that like the rest of us that during your test drive you would have experienced everything on your list.

I view your post as a true testimate of how nice this car actually is. In my opinion this car can hold it's own against just about any other car on the market, but that is not why I bought this car. I bought this car for the same reason people buy any imitation. Although, it may not be exactly the same as the original it is at least in the same realm and it cost much less leaving more money to save or in my case spend on something else.

I appreciate that KIA is offering cars that are safe, reliable, and stylish so I can keep more of my money. If I ever get to a point when money is no object I hope I would stay grounded and still buy KIA as long as their cars are viable. The reality is that I am probably going to be to superficial and buy a one of a kind exotic.

I've never regret my decision and I love Cadenza...more over they asked me to trade in Optima but I decided to keep it for my wife...Actually I'm looking forward to buy Quoris also and give Cadenza to my wife and Optima to my daughter....So as you could see I really apritiate what KIA does... And I owned BMW 750 Li 2006 for 3 years... So I can compare to that...
However this post would help other to make proper choice and consider small details on test drive they never hear from dealer or commercial...As during my test drive I did not find out about headrest...probably of seat positin or because I was over excited. And headrest is not that bad ...but I prefer Optima's one and that's a fact. Other just a minor things that could be improved...to make KIA even better

Yes, Sir!

The guys on the Optima forum complain about their color choices, and there are twice as many choices for the Optima. Kia really does need to re-examine the narrow options for paint colors.

John
More color choices would be nice and would not raise the price of the car.

Wish the auto hold, cruise control, and mirror compass would remember state between restarts.

Scott
Also I wish they add opening/closing windows from remote key...really helpful in hot days

Anyone try to use an ipod with cadenza? I read somewhere that it does not keep the shuffle setting on if you switch audio source or restart ? Anyone have any experience with this ?

Just like with the Optima, it does not keep the shuffle setting. I'm using a 120g classic and would love to have it be kept on.
I wish there was a way to hack the AGREE requirement you have to push each time you start the car.

What I have:
Cadenza fully optioned with Tech package

What I'd change/what I don't like:

- XM doesn't seem to hold a signal as well as my Genesis...not sure if this is just an antenna defect in my particular car. For example, my Genesis plays XM just fine in my garage (door open), whereas the Cadenza does not (it's parked in the same spot my Genesis was).
- No auto dimming side mirrors (an odd omission considering they have an auto dimming rear view mirror)
- No front parking sensors (useful in parallel parking with low cars and motorcycles where you can't always see protrusions). All I can imagine is that this is either a cost cutting measure (though these sensors aren't expensive) or it somehow interferes with the smart cruise.
- I wish there was an option to NOT have a panoramic sunroof. I'm worried the interior cover for the sunroof isn't going to hold up because it's effectively a curtain. I understand why they did that (it has to roll up in a small space), I'd just prefer something a little stiffer.
- I'm getting used to it, but I wish the steering wheel had a little more feedback.
- No vented passenger seat. What the heck Kia and Hyundai? You guys don't think passengers get hot? Hyundai has had 4 years to put one in the Genesis...they didn't. How much could a few extra fans possibly cost?

Overall relatively minor but there it is.

^^^ +1000

This has been complained about many times elsewhere on this forum and is a pet pi$$er of mine as well. WTF?!?!?!?

Rumor has it that the forthcoming Limited will have the passenger ventilated seat.

Welcome Ayasin!

If you use smart cruise control in traffic and car stopped for more than 3 sec you can resume movement by just pressing 'Res' on steering wheel...it even will not increase your speed limit selected priorly but just start moving your car....very relaxing as you don't need to move you leg at all...
I really like it :))

It's funny that you already found the remedy for this in another section of the forum.. yet you still list it?
