3rd Brake Light Flash Module Install

Just installed this today - a module that makes the Center High Mounted Stop Light (CHMSL) - i.e. 3rd Brake Light to flash on initial brake. I used the GS-100A, which you can find on E-Bay or Ali Express.

To install - remove the passenger side rear C-Pillar trim. Move the "Airbag" plastic cover to reveal a 10mm bolt. Remove the bolt,, then tug on the trim to free it from the clips holding it.

The black connector, under the silver antenna module, is the wiring for the CHMSL. The manual calls this a CHMSL filter. In the picture below, I have disconnected it.

You'll see two red wires coming from this connector. Remove the black protective covering, and trace the two wires back to see where they are going. You want to cut the wire that heads upwards towards the brake light.

Cut the wire. Connect the wire coming from the connector to the "in" of the module, and connect the other wire heading to the module to the "out." Connect the black "out" to ground - there a grounding point close by. The "in" ground does not have to be connected.

Tidy up the wires - I mounted the module under the antenna module with double sided tape.

Yours doesn't do that by default? Mine does, I was sure it was a standard feature on all Cadenzas. Mine was built May '13.

Interesting - mine definatley never did that before, and I've never seen in documented anywhere either. I've got an early bulid similar to yours, I think maybe build of Feb '13.

So yesterday I glimpsed another Cadenza from behind - and it looked like to me his 3rd brake did do a flash. I guess some have it already, but I'm confident mine does not.

Just keep in mind that the safety light (blinking) will only happen on the first brake initiation during a certain period of time. I don't know what the time limit is but after that if you brake again it's just solid lighting, it doesn't do it every time. Now, if you keep going a bit and then brake again it will flash again. I can see it happen as long as someone isn't right behind me with their lights on (obviously when it's dark), but my windows are tinted in the back, maybe I can see it reflect easier from them or something?

Here's an older video from when I installed the tail as turn module. No flash there - and I'm pretty sure I had not pressed the brake until that first press.

Curious though that if it's there (I don't doubt you), why that functionality is not mentioned in the manual anywhere. Usually car manufacturers will list any and all features as a selling point.
