Question Question

Has anyone ever had there charcoal filter go bad? They are saying mine is bad in my 17 Cadenza, it has been in the shop now for 10 days or so they are saying they are waiting on KIA to make a decision on what to do. They say they go bad from over filling the gas tank I have never done this, just wondering if anyone on here knows anything about this.

Thanks

Uh... What's a charcoal filter? Honestly had no idea we had 1 in our cars. Fish tank cleaner, sure. Certain natural "health" products, sure. Diesel vehicles... maybe? Never heard in our cars though.

It is part of the EVAP system. Fumes from the fuel system/tank are filtered through the charcoal filter before they escape into the air.

Curious, what was the symptom that had you bring the car into the shop? Check engine light, or something else?

I have to say, if my car has a charcoal filter in it it's either for looks or maybe that's what our cars spew out when we floor it after a while lol. It's not soot, it's charcoal! You're actually cleaning the air when you see that puff of smoke from your exhaust!

So they are saying its my fault, saying we keep filling the gas tank when the nozzle stops. This is complete bullshit I have never done this and now they are going to charge me out the ass to fix it. PISSED OFF!!!!!

Sorry but it sounds like a bad stealership strikes again! I always continue to fill mine after the nozzle stops as it holds another 4+ gallons and I get 500+ miles per tank...as every car should! Anyway, when I first got my car (used w/ 16k miles) I thought something was wrong with the gas tank or fill pipe because it would only hold like 16 gallons. One day I just kept filling it, albeit slower than full speed, but I filled it right up to when there was gas in the fill port. All was fine and I've continued to do that for the last 2 years and past 40k+ miles with no issues. Don't know what to tell you but I'm sorry you're getting the runaround.

2014 SXL, only mods are after market rims due to recall.

Wow, yours cuts off really early for some reason. Mine will cut off before it overfills but if I keep trying to pump gas after the shutoff it will spill out. Maybe it's the particular station you visit (I try to use the same Shell station as much as possible) or your state? I know when I visited OH there was no auto-stop at the station and it shot out of my tank on my old car.
