Is there supposed to be weatherstrip on/inside trunk?

Hi!

so, every time it's raining/wet and I open my trunk water runs inside and onto me and my carried goods inside my trunk (quite a bit of water actually runs in). Upon trying to figure out what the heck is happening, I noticed that the truck has a grove etched all the way around the inside, but there is no weatherstripping inside of this grove. I have asked at the service department and they said it isn't supposed to have any rubber weather strip on the truck 'lid' - it didn't come with any. I asked twice because it seems odd that such a car with so much attention to detail would not address such an obvious need. I got a 'nope, it didn't come with weather strip on the trunk'.

Can anyone confirm this to be true or false?

Go to

You can lookup trunk lid and see it has a gasket on car around where trunk closes.
Not one on lid. You can also buy parts there a lot cheaper than at a dealer

I don't believe there is any additional weatherstripping - this is a known issue that's been discussed before - don't know of any remedy.

There is no weather stripping, I tried caulking some of the gap to see what might come of it, the problem is it would still fill up, and without the opening at the bottom it can't drain. So i pulled out the caulk and just determined that you have to open the trunk slow, let it drain out before opening all the way. One pit fall for sure.

Trying to understand visually what the issue is. Is the water coming from the top of trunk lid directly into trunk when you're opening it or from the etched grove around the trunk? I'll have to inspect my trunk and see what it has. It sounds like this etched grove is supposed to allow excess water to drain to either side. Hate to think if it's pouring cats and dogs this etched grove can't sustain the amount of water and it's draining into my trunk.

Looking at my trunk it appears I do have weatherstripping along the etched grove, if that is the area you guys are talking about. I'll post a picture.

Don't want to speak for the OP, but I think he's talking about the water that comes in from above as the trunk opens and drips down into the trunk.
